Behind Matt Hunter's Gap to Wall from Follow Me
It's been 16 years since this cover shot but some things remain the same...that was HUGE!
For us at Anthill Films, this was a defining moment in Follow Me, our first film as Anthill. We knew Matt well from The Collective years and had always loved his creativity.
In our eyes, few places have played a bigger role in the evolution of freeride than Kamloops, BC. When we filmed Follow Me with Matt Hunter and Kurt Sorge, the raw landscape provided a canvas for a style of riding built around creativity, exploration and seeing possibilities others might miss.
For Sterling Lorence and Matt Hunter, landing the cover of Bike Magazine was a huge honour for both photographer and athlete. For it to become a gatefold cover made it even more special. A copy of this cover still lives on the wall at Anthill's office in Squamish, BC.
"In the evolution of freeride during that decade or so… Matt was one of the key riders whom was pioneering the boundaries not only in magnitude but also creativity. I loved that he tried to interpret into the raw landscape offered and he was willing to put in the time to find what was naturally being offered. He had a great gauge on where the sport had been, and what hadn’t been done before… and he was willing to risk being at the front of exploration."
